Targeted Traffic. How Do I get It?
By Finn Malten

Everyone who has a website knows that to have sales you must have traffic, but not just any traffic it has to be targeted traffic.

What is Targeted traffic? It is simply visitors to your website that are interested in what your website is about. For example, people interested in buying jewellery will find jewellery websites interesting.

How do I get targeted traffic I hear you ask? The following are tried and tested methods:

Forums: Subscribe to forums that discuss your topic. Answer questions and join in the debates there. Become an expert in the field. Then with each article reply you write have a discreet link to your website in the signature file. What can be placed in your signature is often determined by the forum moderators. Do not spam the forum or you will be stopped from posting. This is one of the most productive ways of getting free traffic as those who click your link have already read and liked your style.

Linking from/to other websites: Contact website owners that have similar but not competitive websites to yours, ask them for a reciprocal link from their website to yours. Be sure to select your link partner to match closely your customer profile. Software programs such as Arelis are very helpful in this process.

E-Zines: Contact e-zine owners that have your target readership and buy advertisements from them. Be sure to have a test run to see that the return on investment is sufficient to cover the costs involved. If you are buying an extended run of advertisements haggle with the e-zine owner over price. You may save a considerable amount.

Newsletters: When people visit your website offer them something of value for free if they sign up to your newsletter (like an e-Book). Your newsletter should be written tightly geared towards your topic. It should be published regularly at weekly intervals.

E-Books: Often used, these are usually free informational books for your clients and for others to give away free if they leave your links in the book itself. You can place links back to your website in the books you sell or give to your clients.

Joint Ventures: Contact online marketers looking for new products to sell. They often have large mailing lists with eager to buy customers. Normally they are willing to email their list for a cut of the sale price. This works particularly well with informational products. It has several advantages. It can give a very sizeable boost to both your sales and mailing list within a very short period.

Buy Traffic: This is probably the cheapest in terms of time and most expensive money wise. It gives a traffic boost normally within 30 days. What are you buying? You are buying traffic from expired domain names which the company selling the traffic has bought. They are domain names still registered on the search engines which get a considerable amount of traffic. The previous domain name owners have either lost interest in the name or simply forgot to renew the registration. This means that the traffic from the expired domain name is simply redirected to your website. This is usually high quality traffic as only websites with traffic such as you want is redirected to you. As always, a test run to see if this traffic is suitable should be undertaken.

When you combine these techniques and apply them consistently over time you will find a rich source of targeted traffic coming to your website. This, combined with quality products will ensure the success of your online business.

I Wish I Had Known Then What I Know Now!
By Finn Malten

Hindsight, we all know only too well, is a wonderful thing. For example, if we had only known that the ceiling on membership at a popular site was going to be subscribed so quickly - we would have joined up the minute we heard about it.

If we had only known that niche marketing was going to be so wildly popular we would have focused on that instead of MLM.

If we had only known that Google was going to change its algorithm and the rules of AdWords were going to change we would have...

Stop.

Stop, stop, stop.

In the world of Internet marketing, you can safely bet that the only constant is the rate of change! There's always news of the latest product dropping into your email inbox. There's always another promise of quick and easy money. Google will keep changing its algorithm, and new search engines are quite likely to pop up to challenge Google.

What can you do about this? Four main things:

(1) Continue To Educate Yourself.

Understand that those who rise to the top of any field - whether it's internet marketing or something else - are good at what they do. This means that they never stop learning. There are always new materials, new techniques and probably new 'experts' showing the way.

Most of us learn in three main ways: (a) from experts who specialize in a certain niche related to our field; (b) from others who are following the same path as we are, and (c) by trial and error, from our own results.

You will find that the more you immerse yourself in the world of internet marketing, the more you will be able to analyze which products, services and opportunities are right for you.

(2) Focus. Pick One System And Give It A Fair Go.

Countless people who start out on the internet with high hopes follow the same pattern. They get excited about a new product or system. They throw themselves into it and invest long hours (and potentially quite a bit of money) in getting it up and running. It might be e-books sold from mini-sites; it might be setting up an eBay business; it might be directory-type sites with text manipulators; it might be AdWords or content sites optimized for AdSense.

Then one day they get wind of another new system (probably one created by someone who claims "the gurus are angry with me for giving away all their secrets..."). Discouraged by the lack of results with the first "opportunity", they decide to let it rest for a while and try the new one. Back they go into the cycle of try-the-new-product, get-discouraged, discard-it-and-try-the-next-thing.

And so it goes on. Months pass. Perhaps years pass. They struggle to pay the credit card bills mounting from buying into every new system that comes along... with very little money coming in to offset their 'investment'. As they look back, they start muttering "If I had only known then what I know now..."

If you can recognize yourself in this scenario, the good news is this: Now you DO know better. You don't know what the next new product will be that's going to set the internet world abuzz, but you do know enough to choose a system that's right for you and stick to it.

(3) Take The Time to Plan.

Give yourself from two to four weeks to regroup. Go through all the products you have on your shelves or on your computer. Make a list. Decide which products you now know (so wise with hindsight!) to be worth keeping. Then analyze the 'keepers' and pick on the best system for YOU to use at this time. (This will depend upon your level of knowledge and which one you would enjoy most. Work with your strengths.)

Finally, devise a game plan. You are going to focus on this ONE method and devise a practical time-line to achieve results. Don't be in a rush. Make sure you give yourself enough time to see it 'take hold' so the money starts flowing in. That will give you the motivation to continue.

Clear the decks, physically as well as mentally. Put all the products that don't fit in with your plan in boxes or on disk for safekeeping. You may return to them one day, but if you've chosen the system that's right for you, you probably won't.

4. Don't Get Distracted by New Products.

Resolve to buy ONLY products or services that will save you time or money in implementing the system you have chosen. Never buy anything on impulse. Print out the sales letter, read it through, then put it aside. Read it through again the next day. Does it still seem so appealing? Check out a few forums to listen to the buzz. If a product doesn't deliver, you'll soon hear about it. If it is exceptional value, you'll hear about that, too.

Some questions to ask: "Will this help me to streamline the business I have chosen? Is it worth the money? Will it make a significant difference?" And above all, "Do I need this, or is it just another distraction?"

Resolve to make this the year you will succeed. No more pocket change. No more "If I had only known..."

You DO know.

So make it work.

How Content Will Boost Your Traffic And Create Loyalty
By Finn Malten

Are you aware of how vitally important and valuable CONTENT is to your online business? In fact, content can do more to build your business and profits than just about any other resource or service available.

Following is a list of 5 key ways that content can help build your traffic, subscribers, and customers starting today!...

1. Boost your search engine ranking and daily visitor count by posting keyword rich articles and content on your web-site. For example, if your business involves offering products and services related to fitness, posting fitness related articles and content will attract unlimited prospective customers on a regular basis!

2. Generate double or even triple the number of newsletter subscribers you do currently, simply by offering content in the form of "special reports" or manuals as bonuses for subscribing to your publication. People love freebies, so give them what they want and watch as your results increase!

3. Create an automated cashflow by using content to formulate multi-part email training courses with related web-site or affiliate links "sprinkled" throughout each course. Use an autoresponder service to automate the delivery of your training course (such as a 5 part training course delivered over a 5 day period).

Training courses can also serve as excellent bonus offers for your prospective newsletter subscribers.

4. One of the most important keys to a successful online business is not JUST having a list of mailing list or newsletter subscribers... It's about building a trusting relationship with your subscribers (ie, "cultivating" your list)...

By sending informative articles (content) to your list on a regular basis you will establish yourself as an expert on your topic of business, as well as gain the trust of your subscribers over time. As a result, your subscribers will be EAGER to take advantage of your "paid" product and service offers. (Just make sure that you NEVER take advantage of the relationship you develop with your list by offering products or services of poor quality just to make a quick buck!)

If there is one "constant" in Internet marketing, it's this: A cultivated list of subscribers is as good as money in the bank. Write that down and never forget it!

5. Another excellent way to generate no cost traffic is by submitting ready-made articles to "content hungry" web-site and newsletter publishers with your "resource box" attached. A resource box is nothing more than a little 3-6 line "bio" about you and/or your web-site - including a link to your site (or even instructions on how to subscribe to your newsletter)...

When submitting or offering your article(s) for reprint purposes, just make sure to specify that each article is to be reprinted "as is" with your resource box attached.

...Even one article can go a LONG way towards generating no cost traffic and visitors for you. Just imagine your article being sent out to a newsletter subscriber base of 100,000 individuals - many of whom will be reading YOUR included resource box and clicking on your URL to learn more about what you have to offer!

Well there you have it, 5 sure ways to build your online business exponentially with the help of articles and content...

With the declining effectiveness of many of the online advertising methods that we've relied on in past years, content is only strengthening its position as the ultimate KEY to generating unlimited traffic, subscribers, and customers!

Niche Marketing – a Potential Goldmine
By Finn Malten

You may have heard the word 'niche' being batted around by Internet Marketers. Finding a niche has become the antidote to competing in overly saturated online markets.

What is a niche?

According to Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary a niche is described as "a place, employment, status, or activity for which a person or thing is best fitted... a specialized market".

Have you noticed that despite the closing of many businesses in these harsh economic times, the local hobby train store is still around? That the 'hole-in-the-wall' eatery is thriving? Or that trends such as scrapbooking can start with a bang and still close within a year when four similar businesses start up in the same area?

The online business world reflects the same trends as experienced in the offline world - often with faster turnover and startup rates. Those who promote a product or site that targets a small, select audience can tap into a market that is otherwise not being served. Despite the limitations of the client base, the targeted nature of the business creates a devoted and active market - the aim of any business.

HOW DO I FIND A NICHE?

Finding a niche requires diligent research. Whether you have access to software that harvests and sorts information or you take a manual approach you must first start with ideas.

With a pen and paper (or computer, if that's more comfortable) brainstorm a list of businesses, products and industries. Create a list of keywords and phrases you think would be used by individuals looking for these items online.

Use a software program such as Wordtracker, http://www.wordtracker.com, or a free resource such as the Overture Keyword Selector Tool, http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion, to find keywords for your niche that have a high amount of traffic.

Although a program like Wordtracker makes it easy to find details such as how many sites compete for that market, you can also do your own research.

Concentrate your attention on question phrases such as "how do I..." or "where can I...". These questions will clue you into potential markets that need servicing.

Next, look in Google Answers, http://answers.google.com/answers, (find the “Search Google Answers for” column), type one of your keywords into the search area. What questions are being asked and how much are people willing to pay for answers? If you find a group of keywords with a high number of questions then enter these words in your browser's search engine.

What sites come up? Do they provide answers or solutions to the problem? How are they making money? Can you see an opportunity to service these individuals?

Finding a niche can open the door to a profitable online business. Research the market and be certain that your product or service is valuable to this group. Find forums or groups that target this audience and pay close attention to their concerns.

If you can help these people you WILL make money. The best of both worlds!

Who Else Wants To Start An Online Business
By Finn Malten

Everyday thousands of people are searching the Internet because they want to start an online business.

They wish to work with their computer from the comfort of their home. As a part time or even a full time job.

I had the same wish back in 2003 when I started as an online marketer.

At that time I had no idea what so ever about working on the Internet. I just had a strong desire of starting up something that could bring in a few bucks every month.

My first question was: Where do I begin and how do I find someone that can help me.

I had no one to ask for a piece of advice, so I just started with “trial and error”.

The first couple of years were quite expensive to me. I bought a lot of different programs, most of which promised me a lot of money and fast.

At the end I had to realise that it was all a waste of money. I made no money, I lost money.

Have I benefitted from my Internet Marketing efforts?

I have achieved lots of experience! Not least about what I should not do. I found out what kind of opportunities and programs that did not work or they were even pure scams.

I know today which kind of tools and programs that are working. I know today what kind of initiatives that could lead to creating a part time or full time job on the Internet, working from home.

So there are many opportunities on the Internet you can cultivate according to your own interests.

What is required by you is this: You must work with things carefully, you must ensure that you have spare time available and you must find areas that have your interest to such a degree that you’ll want to create a part time or a full time job based on this interest.

Here are some very important objects that you will need in order to create an online business:

1) You must create a list of interested people, whom you can contact and sell your products to. You may have heard this before: “The money is in the list”. And this certainly is the truth. You must attract people who are interested in what you have to offer. And what you offer should be something you are passionate about. 2) You must be capable of creating a “report” about topics, that interest your prospects. This report should be offered for free to your visitors on your website. 3) Yes, you must have your own webpage, where you inform visitors of the topic around which you have created your site. Here you also offer the free report. Once your visitor signs up on your form with name and email address, your autoresponder will start sending the free report. Now you are building your future list with the names and email addresses you are getting. 4) You must have available a little money. If you are serious about creating a part time or even a full time job, count on $100 per month for tools and marketing and a few hundred dollars as your initial capital.

Believe me, if your desire to start an online business is big enough, you will be able to achieve your goals - with a little help from others.

I was a newbie myself 3 years ago. If I could do it, you can too.

Is It Possible To Get Web Hosting At $3 a Year?
By Finn Malten

Thousands of people are looking everyday for the possibility of creating their own web site.

One possible way to build a website is to use a socalled “wysiwyg” (what you see is what you get) html creator or non html website creator. With such a tool you can create a web site without knowing anything about the html “language”.

Personally I do not recommend that. Why? Because this tool has very limited ability of producing the website you really want. You will get a website which is limited by the tool itself.

If you are a newbie as I was some time ago, I recommend that you learn some basic html. You are probably a little timid like I was before I finally decided to create my own website. But you should not be reticent about this.

There are some very helpful tools out there, that in an educational way will teach you, in a few hours, the basic html.

In a very short time you will be able you to get a web site up and running.

Once you have learned the basic html, you need to get a domain and have your domain hosted by a hosting service provider.

For the newbie this may be an overwhelming challenge. “Where should I start. Who can help me step by step”.

Besides these, for some people insurmountable obstacles, you still have the question with the price you must pay for the services.

A domain name may cost up to $15 per year and hosting even more, often up to $25 per month or more. So hosting is obviously the most expensive one of the two necessessary services.

When I started as an Internet Marketer, I had a site hosted for $24.95 per month. That’s 3 years ago now, but you still find hosting at this price and even higher than that.

I got a brillant service at that time and the company was very reliable with an uptime of almost 100%.

But I began to think that this was too expensive.

Then I found a hosting service at half the price, later on I got hosting for $9, then $7 and even $5 per month.

If you search the net with Google or one of the other search engines, you may find very low prices, down to $2 or $3 per month. That’s quite cheap.

But you want to go lower than that, and it’s possible.

What I found out recently is that some hosting companies offer hosting for reselling.

They offer a package for a certain price per month, and the reseller can offer his customers hosting at prices he decides himself.

So instead of paying $10 or $5 or may be just a couple of bucks per month, it’s now possible to come down to just $0.25 a month, a price which just a while ago seemed to be impossible.

On my web site, you may learn both how to get cheap domain and hosting, but also how you can easily learn basic html and how you, in a very short time, can have your own web site up and running.

Do You Want To Work From Home?
By Finn Malten

Are you anything like I was 3 years ago?

I wanted to know how I could make money online, but I did’n know where to start or how to do it.

Through “trial and error” I found my way. After spending huge amounts of money - joining innumerable opportunities which promised me to get rich, the major part being useless or even scams - I finally discovered how to start.

I soon realized that I needed my own website.

I certainly had no knowledge about how to create a website at that time. I soon found out that there were these automatic website creators (wysiwyg – “what you see is what you get”). However, I just could’n make them work the way I wanted.

So I had to learn some html.

I was a bit frightened of the huge task in front of me, creating my website from the bottom. Then I came across a tutorial that was totally different from the others I had tried. It showed me, lesson by lesson, what I should do. In just 10 minutes I could create my very first (primitive) website.

Step by step I managed to make my website the way I wanted it. Not a very advanced one, but it was alright. Despite my apprehension, I realized that if you get the right educational tutorial, everyone that knows just a little bit of how to use his/her PC, can make a website.

In the following months I learned how to get my own domain, how to get my site hosted and uploaded to the Web.

The next question was to learn how to use my website to create an online business.

God knows that I have spent huge amounts in the past on opportunities of all kinds. None of them have been working.

Through some of the eZines I subscribed to, I got in contact with some honest online marketers who showed me how they started their online business, and they revealed some of the basics for creating an online business.

So here are some of the basics:

You must have your own website. It’s essential if you want to end up with a full time business. You can do without it though, if you just want to make a few hundred dollars each month by selling affiliate products.

Then you must create a member’s list. You may have heard this before: “The money is in the list” - and it’s so true. You must start making a list of people you can communicate with and make offers to. A good targeted list is worth at least one dollar per member per month. Money right into your pocket.

To create your website and your list, you need some knowledge, some tools, some money, some spare time and some hard work.

If you want to know how I did all this, I have created a 11-day report that you can get for free on my website.

Learn Html The Easy Way
By Finn Malten

Do you wish to build a website? Would you like to learn simple html?

Of course you would like to learn how to build a website. Many people have done it. But a lot of people are scared by the thought of learning html, so they never start.

I know because I did’n dare to do it myself - until recently, that is.

A couple of years ago I said to myself: I want to make a website now. But where do I start. How do I find someone who will mentor me?

I knew of course that I could use one of the so-called wysiwyg html creators or none html website creators, but knowing what I know today, I cannot recommend it. Why? Because they have very limited possibilities of producing the website you really want.

I really don’t know how many hours I spent when I tried to create my first web site, before I found a good tutorial, but it’s in scores - at least.

Then I was lucky enough to come across the “First Website Builder” from the Newbie Club, a very good tool, made for newbies.

Later in the process I found another tutorial. When I saw it for the first time, I knew immediately that this was exactly what I had been looking for. Easy to understand and it’s got more practise than theory.

It’s created by a man called Joe. He has made one of the best tutorials that will teach you all the html basics – and it’s free to use.

Joe is very educational and my experience was that I could easily learn the basics which would enable me to get a website up and running. If I wanted some more advanced knowledge of html, he offered that too.

After having been instructed by Joe, I also found someone who could tell me how to get my own domain and have my site hosted and uploaded to the web.

As I mentioned, most people find all this overwhelming. I thought so too before I got the knowledge I have today.

But with the help from good people, I finally learned how to do it.

I have made a report about how to get a website up and running. If you go to my website, I will be happy to send you the report.

Boost Your Online Business By Using Forums
By Finn Malten

There are many ways to boost your business online - writing articles, search engine optimization, acquiring incoming links - the list goes on; but one of the best ways which is often overlooked is to find forums relating to your line of business and join in with them.

Being a frequent participant on forums can increase links back to your website, increase your chances of being seen as an expert, increase your mailing list, sell more of your product, get new affiliates to sign up, make you new friends - in fact there's not a lot to be said against joining a few forums. However, there are some things to think about before you get started:

1. Research each forum before you join. Make sure it's relevant to your business and see if the participants are in your target market. Look at how much traffic the forum gets. How busy is it? - there's no point in joining a dead forum with very few posts.

2. Check the forum rules before you post. Some forums will allow you to post adverts for your business while others will object. Check if you are allowed to add a signature at the end of your posts - adding a small biography with a web link to your business is a great way to increase incoming links to your site and to get more traffic.

3. Be polite and treat everyone the way you would like to be treated. Even though you don't meet people face to face you will build up some great relationships if you take the time to give good answers to questions, to be helpful and to respect other people's opinions. And every post you answer adds to your reputation. Use your posts to give genuine, useful advice, not just to plug your business and you'll soon be looked on as an expert.

4. Don't be afraid to ask for advice - no-one knows everything and sometimes you will need help.

5. To make the most of your time on the forums, allow yourself only a certain amount of time each day. Read only the posts that are relevant and that interest you and post answers quickly before moving on. It's very easy to spend the whole day on forums and not get anything else done. Now here’s what you should not do:

1. Never, ever use a post to blatantly advertise your business, particularly if the forum rules don't allow it. Nothing will damage your reputation faster than spamming a forum.

2. Don't go through the list of forum members, collect email addresses and send them unsolicited mail. At best you'll be banned from the forum and at worst the owners might report you to your ISP.

3. Don't ever get involved in a flame war (this is when a heated conversation on a forum boils over and degenerates into nothing but an exchange of personal insults). It might be really satisfying to say what you think about someone, especially if they've been getting on your nerves, but just imagine what other people will think of you if you do.

In conclusion, treat people online like you treat people in real life. Think of it as a networking event that's taking place on your computer and don't forget that other posts on the forums are made by real people with real feelings.

You already know how to make friends and new contacts face to face. Apply what you already know to online networking and you could be enjoying great success with a global audience.

Effectively Using Overture/Yahoo To Get Website Visitors
By Finn Malten

Overture or now known as Yahoo because of Yahoo’s takeover, was the original inventor of the use of the P4P or Pay for Performance. Overture saw that the internet was fast becoming the easiest and most convenient way to shop, and advertising was going to hit at an all time high because of the many businesses in the arena.

To get a person to go to a site than others, it needs to be very visible. Providing ads that could direct potential consumers and costumers to their site would allow them to have an increase in traffic as well as sales. Yahoo provides a service that can put a site or company’s ad in their sites that can be shown when certain keywords are inputted.

Yahoo offers a chance for any company to increase their traffic by using their services. With more people being aware of your site, there would be more traffic and visitors to your site given the chance to view your pages as well as your products. With even a small percentage of successful sales, with a high traffic volume this could still be a substantial figure for your company.

Getting a consistent substantial flow of website visitors is every company’s goal. Many methods are devised and utilized to ensure that there would be more people to boost the sales and to be aware of the existence of such a product or service. Website visitors are potentially the life blood of your internet based business.

Yahoo/Overture utilizes the same principle as Google’s Adwords. In fact, they are very similar to each other that they use keyword and keyword phrase searches and to determine which ads to show per search. When a person types in a keyword or keyword phrase to search for anything, the search engines gives out the results in a page. Then at the right side of the page, you will see selected ads that have paid for their ads to be viewed with certain keywords and keyword phrases searched.

For example, Lets say you run a car parts retail/wholesale site. You choose keywords that can prompt or trigger your ads to be shown in the page when a keyword is searched. When a search engine user types in Honda Accord, your ad may come up if you have designated that as one of your keywords. You don’t need to fully optimize your site with Search Engine Optimization methods and techniques.

While some labor so hard to make their site one of the high ranking sites per keyword search, you get the chance to be on the top of the list or at least in the first page of a search result increasing your chance to be clicked on. With that, you drive traffic and website visitors to your site a lot faster.

You will have to pony up some cash when using this service though. There are different ways Yahoo/Overture will charge you. It may be in the number of Keywords or Keyword phrases your ad uses or in the many times your ad is clicked on. Others offer many other services like having your ad show up not only in the search engine pages but also with some third party sites.

Third party sites support ads that have the same theme or niche as them. With more areas your ad is shown, you increase the chances of people knowing about your site or product. With more website visitors you increase the sales of your site which makes your investment with your ads a wise one.

With so many competitions in the internet based businesses, it is necessary to take a huge leap forward from the pack by advertising. Yahoo/Overture will be a great place to start. Many have utilized their services and have reaped the rewards of this decision. It’s a marketing strategy that will increase your website visitors as well as increase your sales resulting to profit.

It takes money to make money, while there are some methods that are basically low cost or free, using a marketing service such as what Yahoo/Overture offers will provide results faster and on a larger scale. Many businesses have learned this the hard way, don’t be counted with them.

Do You Want to Make Serious Money on The Internet?
By Gaz Hutchinson

I was one of the thousands (if not millions) of people who wanted my own "internet money machine" and I came from a position where I had little or no computer knowledge - I could send and receive emails and knew how to surf the net - but that was literally it!

Does that sound like you? If so then how do you get from that position to making serious money on the internet? The first thing I did was get incredibly excited. I'd been looking for a home based business and eventually stumbled across the internet as an obvious market place. After all I had a computer at home. So I looked around the web (using one of my existing skills - I knew how to surf!) and soon realised "I want to make money on the internet".

So I spent some more time surfing for ways of making this desire a reality. There seemed so many businesses and no shortage of people offering to make me serious money on the internet. How kind of them! Just type in "online business opportunity" in Google and see what I mean. It was about now I began to think perhaps not all these opportunities were as great as they were cracked up to be!

So I went around doing a bit of market research. How? I visited a few forums. You soon learn that there is a forum on just about any subject online. It is a phenomenon that you can use to weed out some of the good from bad if you use them right. Visit a few (again use Google or whichever search engine you have) and just read the posts relating to your interest. If you like you can join and actually ask some questions. Nearly everyone is helpful and friendly. But beware the person who tries to hard sell his or her opportunity to you.

It helps to get over the get rich quick mentality as soon as possible. Sure you can make serious money on the internet - it is after all a market place - but start out with the intention of making a steady income first. Don't try to run before you can walk. When you have your regular income covered you will be in a good position to move to the next stage (getting rich!)

There are so many business types and niches out there that you will have no problem finding something - in fact you will probably be overwhelmed by the sheer scale of it all. I really had no idea before I started. Just try and hone in on something you have an interest in or that you have some experience in at first. Then research the business and market and the opportunities presented. Visit websites, use the forums and download some ebooks on the subject - invaluable in my experience.

Every bit of help and knowledge you need is to be found online. Just use your search engine as a research tool. The web is like an almost infinite library at your fingertips. I can honestly say that I learned everything I needed without leaving my seat!

Good luck with your "internet money machine", you can do it!

What is Public Domain?
By Stephen Bucaro

Copyright law goes back to the founding fathers who, in order "to promote the progress of science and useful arts" in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, secured for authors, artists and inventors the exclusive right to their work for 28 years.

In1909, the Copyright Act allowed that after 28 years, protection could be renewed for another 28 years.

In 1978, the law was revised to provide protection until 50 years after the creater's death.

The 1978 law also extended previous unexpired copyrights for another 47 years. To put it in simple terms, anything created before 1923 is no win the public domain. Anything created between 1924 and 1963 is in the public domain unless the copyright was renewed.

Most of the time these copyrights were not renewed because either the owners weren't making any money off the work, or they just forgot the deadline.

Have you noticed a lot of TV commercials using rock music written in the early 60's. Why be creative when you can steal somebody elses work who didn't renew the copyright? Another question - can we profit from material in the public domain? Yes, but you may need to be a little creative to do so.

And guess what? Once you modify something in the public domain, you automatically have a copyright on the modified version -until 50 years after your death! Unless you're a corporation, then it's 100 years!

And some of that public domain material is high quality - from authors like Shakespeare, Poe, Dante, as well as well-loved favorites like the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur ConanDoyle, the Tarzan and Mars books of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Alice's adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, and thousands of others.

Add to this the fact that you can use anything created by the Federal Government or its employees in the course of their duties.

You paid for it with your taxes. This gives you access to millions of great photographs, including those taken by NASA. You can get these public domain materials TOTALLY FREE and keep all the money when you sell them.

Let me give you a few profit ideas to get your creativity started.

1. Update an old classic story with new artwork.

2. Take an old classic story and write a variation.

3. Make an old classic into a simulated antique book.

4. Turn an old classic into something else, like a game.

5. Make an old classic or government photo based theme product, for example, a time management notebook.

6. Make an electronic or audio version of an old classic.

7. Turnan old classic into an educational item.

8. Make public domain photographs into a calendar, poster, or screen saver.

9. Gather a library or collection of public domain materials to sell to publishers.

I'm sure you can think of many other creative ideas. Any one of these ideas can be the basis for a Web business.

Where can you find public domain material?

You can go to a good search engine and search with the terms "public domain" or"government". Let me give you a few excellent sources of public domain materials to get you started.

- The Gutenberg Project (www.gutenberg.org) is an archive of over 3000 public domain books in plain text format available for free download.

- NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (www.jpl.nasa.gov)

- US Army Corps of Engineers (www.usace.army.mil) Over 5,900 images cleared available for public release and are free foruse. 700 under keyword "scenic".

- NASA (http://visibleearth.nasa.gov)

- Library of Congress

- Prints & Photographs Online catalog(www.loc.gov) Not all loc images are in the public domain. If the image is not in the public domain, only a thumbnail image is displayed.

- Images in the Public Domain (www.sru.edu/depts/cisba/compsci/dailey/public/public_domain.htm)

- A directory of Public Domain sites (http://homepage.mac.com/krohrer/iad/links/clipart.html) If you want to start a business, why get involved in an MLM pyramid recruiting scam when the work of the best writers, artists, and photographers in history is available to create products for your own business for FREE?
